Anchorage is not a large city, and the downtown is only a few miles from the airport. It can be covered in less than 15 minutes in a taxi ride after you arrive. Taxi fares from the airport to downtown Anchorage tend to be under $20.<\/p>\n

The Egan Center (site of EIPBN 2010) and the Hilton Anchorage are in the center of downtown, separated by 5th Ave., one of the main streets through the business district. The area is filled with restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh Alaska crab, salmon and halibut, and shops selling a wide range of Alaska products and souvenirs, from beautiful native American handicrafts to inexpensive T-shirts.<\/p>\n

The walk from the Hilton Anchorage to the Egan Center along E St. takes only 2-3 minutes, depending on whether the stoplight at 5th Ave is red or green when you arrive.<\/p>\n

The inexpensive student housing available at the University of Alaska Anchorage is in about 5 miles SE of the downtown, and is easily accessible by car.<\/p>\n
