Irene received her PhD in Physics/Material Sciences from the Autonoma University in Barcelona and the National Center for Microelectronics (CNM-IMB, CSIC). She has worked as a postdoc and a Marie Curie fellow at the Technical University of Denmark and at the Molecular Foundry (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) in the USA. She is now a Group Leader at the University of Hamburg, and also the PI of an ERC grant. Her main research interests are nanosciences and nanofabrication for biomedical applications. In particular, using micro and nanofluidic devices, plasmonics and NEMS for single biomolecules and DNA analysis.
