Bio:

Ruth CardinaelsRuth Cardinaels is a Research Professor in the Chemical Engineering department at KU Leuven in Belgium and a part-time Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at TU Eindhoven in the Netherlands. She holds a PhD from KU Leuven and performed postdoctoral research at Princeton University (USA). Her research involves the study of multiphasic soft matter systems by means of rheological, rheo-optical and rheo-dielectric techniques thereby focusing on in-situ time-resolved characterizations during processing. Thereto, dedicated experimental setups such as flow cells or processing equipment are designed and developed. Her research is inspired by the idea that “Formulating multi-phasic materials and engineering their microstructure is essential to integrate various functionalities in the materials of the future”. Ruth Cardinaels was a PhD and postdoctoral Fellow of the Foundation for Scientific Research Flanders and was awarded the Young Distinguished Rheologist Award (2015) and an ERC starting grant on flow-induced structure printing (2020).
