Wei-Chuan Shih earned his Ph.D. specialized in biophotonics and M/NEMS from MIT. Prior to joining the University of Houston, he was a Schlumberger research fellow. Dr. Shih is currently Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering with joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Chemistry. He was a MIT Martin Fellow, and received NSF CAREER Award in Biophotonics, inaugural NASA Early CAREER Faculty Award, UH Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship, UH Cullen College of Engineering Faculty Research Excellence Award, and UH Cullen College of Engineering inaugural Rising Innovator Award. He has published more than 120 articles in books, journals and conference proceedings. He has 16 issued US patents. He currently serves as Associate Editor for OSA Optics Express and SPIE Journal of Nanophotonics. He is SPIE Fellow and Senior Member of National Academy of Inventor, OSA, and IEEE.
