Code of Conduct

Updated May 2024

EIPBN is committed to providing a safe and inclusive community environment for an open exchange of scientific and technical ideas, and mutual learning and education.

In order to maintain a welcoming space and community, the following types of conduct are not tolerated at EIPBN meetings, at gatherings related to or during the EIPBN conference, or in EIPBN platforms:

  • Harassment: unwelcome conduct that undermines a safe and inclusive community environment, especially based on factors of a person’s identity unrelated to EIPBN’s mission.
  • Sexual harassment: unwelcome romantic or sexual advances, behavior, or comments.
  • Discrimination: exclusion of a person based on factors of a person’s identity unrelated to EIPBN’s mission.
  • Retaliation: punitive treatment of a person for bringing attention, in good faith, to conduct that undermines a safe and inclusive community environment.

Acts of harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, or retaliation are encouraged to be reported to a member (or members) of the EIPBN Steering Committee, will be taken seriously, and will be investigated. EIPBN conference chair email is cc24@eipbn.org or administrative operations trustee admin@eipbn.org.

Substantiated instances of conduct contrary to community expectations will be handled by members of the EIPBN Steering Committee addressing and challenging the conduct with the transgressing person and explaining conduct expectations. It is expected that the person will change future conduct to be mindful of and consistent with community expectations.

Repeated, bad faith, or exceptionally serious conduct may necessitate exclusion from the community for an appropriate period of time. Bad faith claims are themselves considered to be harassment; good faith claims that are not substantiated are not considered harassment and are protected from retaliation.
