About Sowmya Venkataramani
Sowmya Venkataramani has a Ph.D in Physics from Brown University. She completed her post-doctoral training at University of California, San Diego and Oregon Health and Science University, where she built on her expertise in optics and sensors, and applied these in neural imaging to study the synaptic mechanisms in the cortex and retina. Beyond the confines of research labs, leveraging her interdisciplinary background in physics and neurophysiology. Sowmya ventured into the field of patents and tech transfer. She assumed roles as a scientific advisor and her invaluable insights have guided Fortune 500 companies and universities, shaping inventions in medical devices, optical systems, driver assistance systems, engine systems, etc.
At Intel, Sowmya initially made her mark in the Global Supply Chain organization where she orchestrated key metrology programs, fostering collaborations with suppliers and devising solutions aligning with Intel’s strategic roadmaps. In her current role as Program Director in the University Research and Collaboration group at Intel Labs, Sowmya plays a pivotal role in steering Intel’s academic research investments. Her leadership extends to critical areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Neuromorphic Computing, reflecting her commitment to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation. Sowmya is also the Program Director of Intel’s Semiconductor Education and Research Program for Ohio, fostering programs and training to help develop and meet workforce needs of the semiconductor industry.
