Abstract Format
Abstracts are limited to one page of text (12 point or larger type) and a second, optional page with up to four figures.
Download an example of a formatted abstract in Word format or PDF format. Late submissions may be considered but only if they report truly outstanding results. Earlier notification will be provided to those authors providing an e-mail address. Authors will be notified of acceptance by March 30, 2020.

Review Criteria
The quality of the abstracts will form the basis for selection of papers for the conference
and will be peer reviewed according to the following criteria:
  • Originality of work
  • Specific results achieved and described
  • Potential impact and interest to the attendees

Manuscripts
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING JVST MANUSCRIPTS
Papers that were planned to be presented at EIPBN 2020 may still be submitted as articles for publication in a Special Collection within the Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology B (JVST B). The papers will be peer reviewed. Deadline for manuscript submission to JVST B is July 11, 2020. Papers will be reviewed according to criteria set by the JVST and must meet JVST standards for both technical content and written English. All manuscripts are reviewed to the same standards as regular JVST submissions.

No Page Charges: AVS Journals do not require page charges. AVS also offers free membership for one year to the corresponding author on accepted JVST papers, which includes journal access. Submit your manuscripts to JVST B and select this year’s EIPBN Collection using the journals’ online manuscript submission system, the JVST Peer X-Press site: http://jvstb.peerx-press.org.

In preparing your article, you should follow the instructions for contributors, which may be found on the Information for Contributors link at http://avs.scitation.org/jvb/authors/manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to use the JVST templates. The easiest way to prepare your manuscript is to use the available JVST Article Template to delete and replace text as necessary. Click here for the JVST Template for MS Word.

Note that acceptance to present at the conference does not guarantee the acceptance of your manuscript in JVST B. To be published in JVST, the manuscript must:

  • present original findings, conclusions or analysis that have not been published previously by the authors or others,
  • be free of errors and ambiguities,
  • support conclusions with data and analysis,
  • be written clearly, and
  • have high impact in its field, which must be within the scope of topics covered by the journal

Note: Authors should select “Article” as the type of paper within the conference special issue (not Letter, Note, etc.)

It is very IMPORTANT that authors indicate to which collection the paper is submitted. Online, you will have an opportunity to tell us that your paper is a part of a Special Collection by choosing this year’s EIPBN collection from the drop-down list in the Manuscript Classification tab.

Acceptable manuscript file types are MS Word or LaTeX. For the initial submission/review process, a single PDF, MS Word or LaTeX file including the figures is sufficient. However, once a paper is accepted, a MS Word or LaTeX file of the text, any tables, and the list of figure captions along with the separate figure files will be required for final production. Use of color in Figures is encouraged. Your FIGURES CAN APPEAR ONLINE IN COLOR FOR FREE.

Prepare illustrations in the final published size, not oversized or undersized.

For any other details about manuscript preparation, please refer to the JVST B journal web page, For Authors tab, Preparing Your Manuscript.

Manuscript deadline: July 11, 2020.

Note: Please observe the deadline to allow for timely processing. JVST will try to include papers submitted after this deadline in the collection, but these papers may not be included.

Submit Manuscript to: http://jvstb.peerx-press.org

Best Paper Award

Each year the editors of the Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B (JVST B) select the EIPBN Conference Proceedings Best Journal Paper. The winning authors share a cash award and each author is presented with a certificate acknowledging their exceptional accomplishment. The winning paper will be made freely available for a period of 2 years and widely promoted via email and on social and professional networks. Submitted manuscripts are automatically eligible for the award. The award will be announced, and presentations made at following year’s conference banquet.

EIPBN Startup Contest
Share your technological innovation, no matter how early the stage.

The EIPBN 2020 Startup Contest is designed to support entrepreneurs, students, research staff, and faculty transition early-stage technologies into scalable ventures. The contest is the most visible way to present an innovation related to our founding topics of electron, ion and photon beam technology as well as micro-/nano-fabricated devices enabled by these patterning or novel nanomanufacturing techniques.

This contest is ideal for any venture developing a technology that is related to any of the topics in the technical scope. The contest encourages participation from all ventures incorporating new technical findings from any of EIPBN’s fields of scientific interest. Entry is open to startups at any stage of development – from early ideation to technology validation and growth. This contest aims to support the transition of technology and ideas from the lab into a scalable venture.

When developing your business case, come and join our start-up contest to discuss with seasoned scientists and engineers from academia, government and industry how you can take the next step. Award winners receive access to a tailored network to help your new business strive.

“The EIPBN startup contest was interesting and fun! Both the judges and audience provided feedback finely tuned to the interests of our future customers and the quirks of the industry.”

-Adam V. Steele, ZeroK, 1st Place EIPBN 2019 Startup Contest

To enter the contest, please download and submit the EIPBN 2020 Startup Contest Application.

Submission deadline is March 31, 2020

Please email your applications to Nick Petrone and Regina Luttge.

Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a case by case basis.

Accepted startups will be will be notified well in advance of the conference and invited to present a poster to the EIPBN community and panel of judges at the conference. Poster presentation guidelines will be provided to accepted startups.

Please note that the representatives for startup participating in the contest will need to register for the conference and attend the EIPBN Startup Contest’s poster presentation.

Please check back frequently for updates with additional information. For additional questions, please contact Nick Petrone or Regina Luttge.

Startup Contest Judges

  • Dr. Nick Petrone, KLA
  • Prof. Regina Luttge, Eindhoven University of Technology
  • Dr. Stefano Cabrini, LBL
  • Efrat Moyal, LatticeGear, LLC

Oral Presentation Guidelines
Regular oral presentation is 20 minutes (15 mins for the presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A) in length.
Invited oral presentation is 30 minutes (25 mins for the presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A) in length.

  • Please use large fonts (20 or above). The text should be legible from the back of the room.
  • Please avoid using dense text, tell the story in graphics, diagrams and pictures.
  • Present the high level objectives, approaches, and conclusions in succinct ways.
  • Use the slide title effectively to communicate the main content of the page.
  • Start you talk with introducing the motivation instead of a presentation outline.
Audience attention can be captured better this way.
  • As a great speaker once said: “Life is too short for an outline …”. (H.S. 2005, Germany)

Poster Presentation Guidelines
Regular poster should be no larger than 3 ft. high x 4 ft. wide.
Invited poster should be no larger than 3 ft. high x 8 ft wide (double space).

  • Please use large fonts (24 or above), especially for the session titles. The texts should be legible from some distance away. This will help draw interest in a busy Poster session.
  • Please avoid using dense text, tell the story in graphics, diagrams and pictures as much as possible.
  • The objective is for visitors to understand the “main point” of this work, not to condense a full paper into poster format. Interested visitors can always get the full paper as references.
  • One integrated full page poster is much better than 10-20 sheets of Powerpoint presentation pinned together.
  • Poster main ideas should be clearly spelled out in the INTRO & CONCLUSIONS sections. The main point of the work should be crystal clear from spending only a few moments reading these sections.
