About E. Harriet Åhlgren

E. Harriet Åhlgren is an Academy Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Together with her team, she develops functional nanomaterials and quantum structures by employing ion beam irradiation, state of the art characterization techniques and atomistic simulations. Dr Åhlgren obtained her PhD at the University of Helsinki in 2015. She then joined the Computational Materials Group at the University of Nottingham as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2019 she was awarded the Lise Meitner Fellowship by Austrian Science Fund and joined the Physics of Nanostructured Materials group at the University of Vienna, Austria, focusing on high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy. In 2023 she started her current role as a PI within the project “Metal atoms on functional nanoplatforms” funded by the Research Council of Finland. Recently she accepted a faculty position at the University of Uppsala in Sweden, where she will start as an Associate Professor in Ion Beam-based Materials Physics later this year.
